Police Department FAQ

Bicycles

If you reside in the Village of New Glarus and own a bicycle, it must be licensed.  Bicycles may be licensed at any time at the police department.  There is a fee for permanent registry.  You will need to bring your bike along when you register.

Bicycles are prohibited on sidewalks.

D.A.R.E.

The Green County Sheriff's Office conducts the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program to Fifth Grade Students at the New Glarus Elementary School. This program teaches kids to resist drugs and violence and is conducted by a Green County Sheriff Deputy.  The D.A.R.E program has been proven to be an effective tool in combating the growing drug and violence problem in our communities.

Drug Collection Drop Box

A drug collection box is located in the lobby of the New Glarus Police Department.  It is available to the public for the purpose of disposing of unwanted or expired personal medications.  You may do so anonymously anytime between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday-Friday and 12 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday as the lobby door is open.  Please do not deposit any liquids, syringes or infectious waste into the drop box. The drop box was generously donated by the Monroe Clinic Foundation.

"Shop with a Cop" Program

The Green County Law Enforcement Administrators' Association (GCLEAA) has sponsored the "Shop With A Cop" program since 2002. This program is designed to provide kids an opportunity to "Shop With A Cop" to provide their family with Christmas presents, they wouldn't have been able to receive without the program. The Police Chiefs, Sheriff and other Law Enforcement Administrators of Green County, working with their Officers, the local School Districts, Wal-Mart and other organizations, bring a brighter Christmas to kids each year.

If you would like to make a donation to this worthy cause, you may send a donation made out to "Shop With A Cop" in care of the New Glarus Police Department. Contact Chief Jeff Sturdevant with any questions regarding the "Shop with a Cop" program.

Vacation Home Checks

We will retain information concerning departure and return dates of vacationers resulting in vacant homes for any period of time.  Persons leaving on vacation must provide a name and phone number of local key holder for emergency purposes. The form will need to be completed at the Police Department for this service. After the form is completed and signed, the Police Department will periodically check the exterior of the property while homeowners are out of town on vacation.
